Hawthorne Valley Farm Store and Practical Arts School

Hawthorne Valley Association (HVA) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization promoting social and cultural renewal through the integration of education, agriculture and the arts in Columbia County, NY. Allegrone Companies completed a campus-wide Master Plan for the 400 acre hamlet in 2012. The 10-year $35 million dollar plan will transition the hamlet to a carbon-neutral campus, through high-performance buildings, renewable energy systems, and net-zero water onsite.

The Hawthorne Valley Farm Store project consisted of a significant addition while keeping their doors open to the public.

The Practical Arts Building was the first Design-Build project that was completed as part of the Master Plan Build-Out. The new building is designed to be the first zero-net energy building on campus, providing at least as much energy as it generates through the installation of solar photovoltaic panels. The building features dedicated workspaces for ceramics, woodworking and a new machine shop.
