New Housing Units for Springfield's Most Vulnerable Unveiled

October 3, 2025

Yesterday, our team joined the City of Springfield in celebration of the opening of new supportive housing units at 275 Chestnut Street, designed to provide permanent, affordable homes for chronically homeless individuals. The $16 million project was developed by Home City Development Inc., with Allegrone Companies serving as the construction manager. The initiative repurposed the first two floors of the former YMCA building into 29 rental units, 23 of which are reserved for the community's most vulnerable residents through a partnership with the Mental Health Association.

“It’s a huge crisis in our community and all across the country, and Home City is proud to be one part of the solution,” said Justin Rudgick, executive director of Home City Development Inc. “That’s providing safe, quality, and permanent supportive housing for homelessness.”

Residents of the new development will receive housing assistance vouchers and support services to help them transition into stable living conditions. The inclusion of amenities aims to enhance the quality of life for the residents.
