New Housing Coming to Historic North Street in Pittsfield
November 26, 2025
Allegrone Companies is planning to breathe new life into Pittsfield’s historic North Street corridor with a transformative housing project that blends modern living with historic preservation. The redevelopment of the former Berkshire County Savings Bank building (24 North Street) and adjacent properties at 30–34 North Street would deliver 23 new apartments, including 19 market-rate units and 4 affordable units, revitalizing a long-vacant section of downtown.
Allegrone Companies is seeking a tax increment exemption under Pittsfield’s Housing Development Incentive Program (HDIP) for its planned redevelopment of historic properties at 24 and 30–34 North Street into 23 apartments.
"The local tax increment exemption and the HDIP were crucial for the realization of these projects. Without these incentives, the development of these housing units would not have been possible. The new units have brought a significant influx of new residents to the urban center of Pittsfield, stimulating economic development in the downtown area and its surroundings," Community Development Director Justine Dodds commented.
Pittsfield’s downtown renaissance is gaining momentum, and projects like this are key to creating a thriving, inclusive city center. By blending historic preservation with modern housing, Allegrone Companies's goal is to set a benchmark for future redevelopment efforts in the Berkshires.
