New Affordable Housing Opens in Northampton, Addressing Critical Regional Demand
June 2, 2025
Allegrone Co. joined Valley Community Development for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 23 Laurel Street, a new affordable housing development in Northampton, MA.
“This development is more than just a few new buildings. It’s 20 brand-new affordable apartments that will soon be home to individuals and families who have been waiting for a place to call their own—a place that is safe, stable, and within reach,” said Liz Reno, Senior Project Manager of HMR.
Reno announces that they have received over 2,000 applications, an astounding number that reflects the critical need for affordable housing, not just in Northampton, but across our entire region.

“Allegrone Construction was the builder here, and I’d like to say—if it were up to us, our tenants would have to live inside file folders. Without someone to build our properties, we don’t have affordable housing,” praised Laura Baker, Real Estate Project Manager of Valley Community Development. “It is with huge thanks that we acknowledge their work. They had an amazing team to work with, completed the project on an incredibly quick schedule, and delivered exceptional quality!”
The project adds 20 homes for households earning at or below 60% of the area median income (AMI), with four units designated for families transitioning out of homelessness and two set aside for survivors of domestic violence. This family-focused development was thoughtfully designed to feel like home, featuring amenities such as in-unit washers, patios, and access to outdoor space and community gardens.
As the affordable housing crisis continues to affect communities across Massachusetts and the country, 23 Laurel Street stands as a clear example of what’s possible when we invest in housing that meets real community needs.
