Arts Center Lake Placid Breaks Ground on Major Renovation Project

September 22, 2025

The Lake Placid Center for the Arts (LPCA) officially broke ground yesterday on a transformative renovation of its 50-year-old performance, rehearsal, and gallery building. This milestone marks the beginning of a new era for the Adirondack region’s premier arts institution. The revitalized Arts Center Lake Placid will be accessible and sustainable for the Adirondack community

The renovation will modernize the facility while preserving its intimate character, making it fully accessible and better equipped to support LPCA’s expanding programs. Plans include upgraded HVAC systems, expanded classroom space, improved backstage infrastructure, and a redesigned lobby and box office.

Leading the construction efforts is Allegrone Companies, who will oversee the phased construction process, ensuring minimal disruption to LPCA’s programming.

“This is not just a renovation—it’s a reinvestment in our community,” said James Lemons, Executive Director of LPCA. “We’re creating a space that reflects the caliber of the artists we host and the passion of the people we serve.”

The design, led by Marvel—a renowned architecture firm specializing in cultural spaces—was shaped through extensive community input and public tours. “We want to hold on to and reflect the spirit of LPCA while allowing it to be new, exciting, and forward-thinking,” said Lissa So, Marvel’s founding partner.

Construction will begin with interior demolition this fall, followed by exterior work in spring 2026. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2027. LPCA will continue its events and classes throughout the renovation, with alternate locations to be announced.

“This is the moment it has to happen,” said Alison Simcox. “We’re excited to share an upgraded, fully accessible arts center with the community that will be a resource for decades to come.”
