When Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. and Berkshire Housing Development Corp. teamed up to revitalize the former J.J. Newberry's building on North Street, they selected Allegrone Construction as the Construction Manager for the 80,000 sf renovation. To be known as the Central Block, the project included a mix of retail and commercial space, new elevators and stair towers, and was envisioned as a focal point for downtown Pittsfield.

Since the scope of work included historic restoration, Allegrone worked closely with the client to ensure qualification for tax credits by maintaining the historic character of the front third of the building.
