Allegrone News: Walker House in Lenox may find new life as 8 rental units

LENOX — A badly run-down 1804 house in the Historic District is on the road to rescue.

In a rare, rapid display of unanimity, the Zoning Board of Appeals has enthusiastically approved a special permit from a subsidiary of the Allegrone Cos. for a $1 million historical restoration of Walker House in order to reopen it as eight market-rate rental apartments.

Crane Estate's Italian Garden Project

This past April, we began our project on the restoration of the Crane Estate’s Italian Garden, located on Argilla Road in Ipwish, MA.  Our team will restore the masonry, install new drainage, and make structural repairs to the water basin of the garden.  The project is set to be completed this year, and patrons will be able to enjoy the newly restored gardens come November.

Allegrone has been hard at work on the renovation of our 46 Main Street building. Last week, we were delighted to give a tour of the construction site to the Stockbridge Selectmen and Finance Committee. 

Many thanks to our project superintendent Roger Gaylord, who led the tour, giving our visitors their first look at the progress of the renovation, including framing and foundation work.

Bostwick Gardens paves the way for new affordable, modern senior housing in Great Barrington, MA. The project involved renovation and upgrades to the existing 29 unit apartment building. The new construction phase was performed simultaneously and included the addition of a new 31 unit, 3 story building on the adjoining lot. The new combined facility includes a game room, an exercise room, a large community kitchen and a community garden.

Originally built in 1888 as the Berkshire County Home for Aged Women, the design entailed restoring and replicating prominent historic details, which pay homage to the Richardsonian Romanesque architecture, while incorporating a new transitional style that boasts the comforts of multifamily living in the modern age.  The program houses 18 residential units along with shared amenities including dining cafe, reading and fitness and educational uses.
